Pipped to the line

The last week or so has been marvellous so I can only take the positives from such a day. Let me think, what were they? Firstly, that services win and lose, that not every event will give us profits, that long-term edges are what make long-term profits...

Skeeve's selection was an unlucky one, but personally I don't think it was a good selection. The reason being is that Altrincham are a Conference Premier side and Curzon a Non League Div One side. That in itself isn't enough but Altrincham need something to kick start their season, and they were losing 2-1 at HT when the teams played on Saturday before the game was abandoned due to floodlight failure. Now if I were manager of Altrincham I would have rectified the wrongs against weaker opposition and come out fighting, like tonight. Anyway, that's my theory behind the result.

Equine Investment's and Pro Bandit's selections finishing in 2nd... nothing more annoying than an evens favourite beaten by a 9/1 outsider, certainly warrants a Steward's enquiry. lol

A couple of missed opportunities for the night: not backing Roda JC in the Asian Handicap market and not backing correct score of 0-2 in the Cheltenham game, the reason being is that I predicted an under 2.5 goals game and at 0-1 should have backed the 1-1, 0-1 and 0-2. But we learn, so much to learn...

The only way is up, baaaaby...

Until tomorrow

  1. Hi Kodagira,

It's a good theory, but I wonder if you'd share it with your readers if Curzon managed to win the game. :)

It was a long shot FA Trophy bet, not a small-priced BSP home 'banker', after all even I agreed Altrincham were favorites, but the odds were 3.50/3.60 for a home win (4.00 on Saturday) and I still think there was plenty of value in those odds - Altrincham lost 1:2 at Curzon Ashton with a full-strength team in pre-season and they were losing 1:2 on Saturday before the power failure, not to mention they were missing both their skipper and best scorer both on Saturday and yesterday.

We were only six minutes + injury time away from a goalless draw (as I improvised a draw-no-bet, we would've only lost less than half a point in case of a draw - the whole stake was four points) and, if you take a look at the match report from Saturday (http://www.altrinchamfc.co.uk/101211cn.htm) and yesterday's matchday updates (http://www.altrinchamfc.co.uk/update.htm), you'll see that Curzon Ashton were a much better team on Saturday and that yesterday's game could've gone either way.

    cheers,
    skeeve

  2. Hi Skeeve, I wish other tipsters would come onto the blog and make comments too.

As humans we tend to focus more on the negatives and if Curzon had won the game I would probably have said something, time permitting. I love it when outsiders come in!

Your work is about finding edges, anyone who's been in this businss long enough knows that and as experienced punters we must accept that there are variables involved in gambling that are impossible to account for, meaning horses can be pipped to the line by a nose. It's why I've got a portfolio, so not every horse is pipped to the line. A lot of punters fail to realise that a 4/1 on paper only has a one in four chance of winning and that not all events can be won. Curzon were outsiders at 3.5, but maybe they would have won 3/4 times giving us that edge, I would like to think so.

Anyway, nice to see you on here with your own theory on what went wrong!! lol. I want your next comment to be on why your selection(s) won!!

    Thanks!
