Contrast - and rewards

I suppose that's what gambling is all about: biding your time during the losses until the serious winners come along. After getting a few things off my chest regarding how Each Way Value has performed for me they come up with a winner below 11/1 that I took on at 9/1 (not counting the 25/1 winner too)! But that's gambling and that's why I created this blog, so anyone who's following can understand the mental state of a professional gambler, because it is very much up and down.

Balance is so important, detach yourself from your gambling as much as you can. I've already said several times that looking at the results at the end of the day is much better than following them as the day progresses. Your mental state can be dependent on how the selections have performed. Being optimistic and generally positive helps, as does your staking. Imagine your worse day possible, what you could possibly lose. If that hurts your inside then you're probably staking too much. Stake amounts that aren't likely to hurt, you could end up healthier mentally and physically because of it. Dominate your gambling, don't like it dominate you.

Here are today's results:

Like I said Each Way Value had a shocker of a good day. A 25/1 and 9/1 winner resulting in a 17.67PT profit for the service today. Actually, I had stakes on 4 horses in the 15:10 so was relieved when one of the horses won.

Here is September's graph:

Doesn't this graph just epitomise gambling??

I mean, over the last three days there have been small losses, then all of a sudden some big winners pop up on the graph. Professional gambling isn't for the fainthearted, and that's probably why I enjoy this job, because it isn't boring and is totally unpredictable. One day you back the favourite at 2/5 only to see it lose to a 50/1 shot. Then the next day you're on an outsider that wins by a nose, incredibly volatile.

Rewards

I use pseudo accounts and I reward those people for helping me out. These rewards aren't massive and they actually help me out in two ways:
- My pseudo helpers are happy;
- My pseudo helpers may recommend other potential pseudo helpers to me.

That means I can always keep stakes low and divide them across the pseudo accounts. Now, I don't want to talk about pseudo accounts here, what I want to emphasise is the importance of rewarding people for their help. It may be a thank you, it may be a financial reward or even a small present.

Reward yourself. I live by the fact that we should commemorate, no matter how small the victory. A small victory for myself might be the fact that I've gone part-time, or that a service has proven profitable. It's important we commemorate and that's where staying optimistic and positive factor in: by commemorating the small things it fuels our optimism and positivity and one ends up sustaining the other. I'm not saying that we should commemorate a losing run or a bad tipster, but if after six months with a service you have gained some reasonable profits, go out and enjoy yourself or buy yourself a book. Do something that you've wanted to do. I've been wanting a good bike for a while, so tomorrow I'm going to get one! It'll be a tangible reward for the work I've put in, and will also benefit me physically. And as I've said before it's important to be both physically and mentally balanced!

Until tomorrow
